Strawberry Surprise!

I love Fall but Winter is not my friend. From coughing and sneezing to sore throats and wheezing, Winter is not fun at times. But I have a nice hot cup of mint tea with my name on it tonight when I get home.

I made a Strawberry cake for the in-laws this week. Tell me what you think!
It is a Strawberry Cream Cake with strawberry buttercream icing. Perfectly sweet, perfectly moist.

Enjoy!

Over the Hill

If we are fortunate, we all will get to reach that "over the hill" stage in our lives. I was asked to make this cake for a very hard-working man. The joke was that he never "lounges". I dont know if his body even knows that position. :) I hope he enjoyed his cake.
I also put a picture of me making the man figure. It was my first attempt at a figure. He is made out of gumpaste.
Thanks for stopping by!

Luck of the Irish

I felt like making something this weekend since I had a bit more time on my hands. I purchased a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream. Chocolate and Bailey's simply seem to go together. This VERY SIMPLE but very yummy cake consists of chocolate cake with 2 Tablespoons of Irish Cream in the batter. Once the cake is cooled, I poured a bit more Bailey's over the top of each layer. This cake is served cold. Enjoy!

Recipe:
Your favorite chocolate cake recipe
Add 2 T of Bailey's Irish Cream to batter

Allow cake to cool completely on cooling racks
Using a spoon, slowly pour 1/8 c of Bailey's over one layer
Spread 1/2 tub Cool Whip Topping on first layer
Add your second layer of cake
Spoon another 1/8 c of Bailey's over the second layer
Spread remaining Cool Whip Topping over second layer
Top off with chocolate curls

Fun With Fondant!

I forgot to post this picture of my finished "music" cake last month. This was my first fondant cake. I had a great time learning how to manipulate the product and the difference between gumpaste and fondant. There are a lot of neat decorating tricks you can use with fondant. Though fondant is fun, buttercream still "takes the cake" for me. :)

Sunflowers Are Here

Hey Cats and Kittens! I did a few cupcakes for my friend's 30th birthday. We had a lot of fun catching up with all of our friends. These cupcakes were made out of carrot cake and another batch was made out of pumpkin cake. They were yummy.
The sunflowers were a simple gumpaste flower that I colored to appear to be a sunflower. I also used petal dust to add a bit more color.

Pumpkin Cupcakes!

I was craving pumpkin this weekend. For those of you who do not know me personally, I love Fall. Everything about the season makes me happy and content. From the cool, crisp air to the changing of the leaves, I love Fall. Did I mention that already? :) So due to my love of Fall, I enjoy the smell of pumpkin and cinnamon. I created a new pumpkin cupcake recipe that is super moist and full of flavor.
I know two people in my life that would love these: my best friend and my brother. They both love pumpkin and I love them!

I topped off these lovelies with a cream cheese icing. Nothing better than cold cream cheese icing. Definiately my fav of the flavors. But I found out the hard way it is almost impossible to decorate flowers using this icing. Need to stick to good ol' butter cream or royal icing. :)

I also decided to get a bit creative with decorating tips. I havent really tried to make flowers on cupcakes before so I whipped up some butter cream icing and had a go at it. Enjoy!
